Hohner CX-12 Chromatic Harmonica- The CX-12 is a fairly new model for Hohner but it is quickly becoming popular for it's smooth ballad-like sound, easy action, good volume, and ease of disassembly for cleaning and repair. You will most likely want to stick with the key of "C". 12 holes, 3 complete octaves, hole 1 is "middle C". Pro Recommendation: "Great for beginners. It's louder without losing any dynamic range. The Lee Oskar "Natural Minor" Diatonic- Don't be confused. This is not a standard tuned diatonic and it is not what we recommend for beginners. This is a special purpose harmonica. The "Natural Minor" tuned diatonic is made specifically to be played in the 2nd position and is used for songs in minor keys. It's a little confusing, but the key of the harmonica is the key for the 2nd position playing. Typically, the key of the harmonica is the same as the 1st position playing, but not in this case (same as the "Melody Maker" listed below). The most common minor key used in music is "A" minor. This is most likely the key you would want to buy first. After that, if there is a specific song you want to play to, buy that Natural Minor keyed harmonica. Remember to play in the 2nd position. |

Lee Oskar Repair and Maintenance Kit- Harmonica maintenance is an important part of harmonica playing. Now, when a reed sticks, you'll have easy, accessible tools and procedures for getting it playing just right. Whether you are adjusting the "gap" of the reeds to make your harmonica "stick" less, or whether you are retuning reeds to get them in tune with each other (see the Korg CA-30 Chromatic Tuner also on this page), or even creating your own "alternate tuned" harmonica, the Lee Oskar 7-piece tool kit and 16-page illustrated manual is the way to go.
